Beijing: Ahead of 'Belt and Road Initiative' conference Chinese president Xi Jinping met with various international leaders.
Xi met Chilean President Sebastian Piñera, International Monetary Fund President Christine Lagarde, Ethiopia's Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Mozambique's President Filipe Nyusi.
The BRI conference is about to take place later this week. In order to form a network with other countries Chinese government has launched the BRI through which it can ensure its imprint in other countries. This is 2nd BRI conference.
At present there are two nations which have stood against this initiative- India and US. As for India their main reason of objection is related to CPEC project which makes its way through the Pakistan occupied Kashmir. And US on the other hand is concerned about China's growing strength.
However the European countries are warming up to China. Russia is also saying yes to the initiative although it has not got into any discussions with China .
China is on track of creating a China centric world by forming strategic relations with countries of Asia, Africa and Europe. But many countries that became partners in the BRI are slowly realising that in the long run they may get into the Chinese debt trap. Pakistan is already reeling under the Chinese debt. It has sought loans from IMF, but IMF seems reluctant for it fears that the loan given to Pakistan might be used to repay the money to China.
