Beijing: In a clear warning to Washington, China said that it would impose sanctions on US companies involved in the arms sales to Taiwan.
Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said, "The one-China principle is the consensus of the international community. Taiwan tries to wear a mask of democracy to confuse the international community."
China claims that the US arms sales to Taiwan violates the one-China principle and the three Sino-US joint communiques.
Last week the US state department announced the proposed 2.2 billion US dollar sale to Taiwan. The sale includes 108 Abrams tanks and 250 Stinger surface-to-air missiles.
China sees the deal as a threat to Beijing as the deal would strengthen Taiwan's position in the region.
