Afghan top envoy's daughter 'kidnapped', 'tortured' in Islamabad

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan states with deep regret that on July 16, 2021, the daughter of the Afghan ambassador to Islamabad Silsila Alikhil, was abducted for several hours and severely tortured by unknown individuals on her way home," the statement's opening remarks read.

Kabul: The daughter of Afghan's ambassador to Islamabad was abducted and severely tortured, said a press release issued by statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan on Saturday.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan states with deep regret that on July 16, 2021, the daughter of the Afghan ambassador to Islamabad Silsila Alikhil, was abducted for several hours and severely tortured by unknown individuals on her way home," the statement's opening remarks read.

Alikhil has been taken under medical care after she was released from the kidnapper's captivity. "The MoFA strongly condemns this heinous act and expresses its deep concern over the safety and security of diplomats, their families, and staff members of the Afghan political and consular missions in Pakistan," the statement read further.

Afghanistan has urged Islamabad to take "immediate actions" to ensure full security of the Afghan Embassy, other diplomatic missions and personnel in the country in accordance with international treaties and conventions.

The ministry has also urged the Pakistan government to expedite the identification and prosecution the perpetrators. "The Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs is following the matter with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan," the read the statement.
