9 dead in second blast in Afghanistan

An improvised explosive device (IED) attack stormed the surrounding areas of the northwestern Dawlat Abad district in Balkh province. This is the second suicide attack in Afghanistan in under 12 hours.

Kabul: At least nine people were dead on Sunday after a roadside explosion stormed the Dawlat Abad district in Balkh province, just hours after a deadly attack at a wedding hall in Kabul killed over 60 people.

Deputy provincial police chief, Abdul Razaq Qadiri said, "Nine innocent civilians were killed following an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in surrounding areas of the northwestern Dawlat Abad district in Balkh province on Sunday morning."

Qadiri added, "The deceased were shifted to the district hospital and families of the victims were informed about the attack."

This is the second suicide attack in Afghanistan in under 12 hours.

On Saturday night, at least 63 people were killed and 182 others were injured in a suicide blast at a wedding hall in Kabul. Women and children were among those killed and wounded in the blast.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani strongly condemned the barbaric attack and expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased.
