Beijing: As many as six people were killed and more than 200 sustained injuries after a powerful tornado ripped through Chinese city of Kaiyun.
With winds exceeding 82 kilometers per hour, the tornado hit Kaiyuan at 5.10 p.m. on Wednesday, swept through an industrial park and headed south of the city, where it faded after about 15 minutes, media reported.
The tornado accompanied by rain and hail caused damage to housing blocks and factories and also affected power supply, which has not yet been fully restored.
"The windows of our home were totally destroyed due to the tornado, but otherwise our house didn't suffer much damage," said a resident, adding that in case of the worst-affected family, "the tornado entered the house and tore off the bedroom doors."

In addition to the damage caused in residential areas, at least a dozen factories were severely affected in the industrial park, including various heavy machinery, local media reported.
Authorities, who are taking stock of the damage caused by the tornado, said that 210 residents have been rescued and efforts are now focused on ensuring that power supply is resumed as soon as possible.
