Watch: Avalanches triggered by explosives in Colorado

The Colorado Department of Transportation dropped explosives from air to trigger avalanches. This was done to brought down large amounts of snow in Colorado.

Copper Mountain, Colorado: Intentional avalanches triggered by explosives dropped from the air have brought down large amounts of snow in Colorado.

The Colorado Department of Transportation brought in a helicopter Tuesday to help trigger snow slides along Interstate 70, including an area where a natural avalanche swept down on Sunday as vehicles were passing by.

Snow along with rocks and trees brought down by the slides covered portions of the highway.

Eastbound Interstate 70 at Silverthorne remained closed as of Tuesday afternoon because of the debris from one of the controlled avalanches.
