US closely monitoring situation along LAC

Amid the border tensions between New Delhi and Beijing, Defence Secretary Mark Esper has said that the US-India defence cooperation is one of the key cooperations of the 21st century.

Washington: US Defence Secretary Mark Esper has said that Washington is closely monitoring the situation along the Line of Actual control amid tensions between India and China.

Esper said that the activities of the People's Liberation Army are destabilising and the US will back sovereignty of its allies.

His statement came at a time when the US and the Indian naval force conducted an exercise near the Andaman Nicobar islands.

USS Nimitz carrier strike group is returning from the South China Sea, where it went with another US Navy ship Ronald Reagan to conduct dual-carrier operations.

The US Navy had said that the Nimitz carrier strike group is currently deployed to the Indian Ocean in support of a free and open India-Pacific.
