STORYLINE:
A critically endangered Sumatran tiger named Asim has made his debut at the ZSL London Zoo.
Asim was recently transfered to London from a Danish safari park to serve as a new mate for female resident tiger Melati.
Footage from Wednesday showed Asim familiarising himself with his new environment, climbing a tree trunk, having a bite, and playing with various tiger toys - including a large ball.
According to Kathryn Sanders, ZSL London Zoo's head tiger keeper,  Asim is a "handsome, confident cat, known for being very affectionate with the ladies in his life."
Zookeepers now hope that Asim will be the "perfect mate" for 10-year-old Melati, and wish for tiger cubs in the future - if the two get along.
Seven-year-old Asim, whose name means 'protector' in Arabic, was matched with Melati through the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP) for Sumatran tigers, which is coordinated by experts at London's zoo and aims to save the species from extinction.
According to the EEP, just 400 Sumatran tigers remain in the wild.
