President Donald Trump pledged to a child attending the White House Easter Egg Roll festivities Monday that he would keep up his work on the southern border wall.

Washington: While responding to a child's remark on the US-Mexico border wall, US President Donald Trump said that he would keep up his work on the southern border wall.

Trump made the remarks at the White House Easter Roll festival on Monday while sitting at a table with kids coloring Easter cards for the US troops.

"I will. Oh It's happening. It's being built now," Trump told the child.

"Here's a young guy who just said, 'Keep building that wall.' Can you believe that? He's going to be a conservative some day," Trump said.

Trump has been campaigning to build the wall to secure the Southern border with Mexico which will stop illegal immigration.

Only 1.4 billion dollar has been approved by the Congress for border barricades but Trump has asserted that he can use his powers as chief executive to transfer another 6.7 billion dollar to wall construction.

Earlier this year, Trump declared a national emergency to bypass Congress and obtain funding for the wall.

Before that, a standoff between Trump and Congress led to a government shutdown.
