Chicago: Penguins at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium were let out to waddle through the facility this week after it closed its doors to visitors to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

In videos shared by the aquarium on social media, penguin couple Edward and Annie were seen making a supervised visit to the Shedd's empty rotunda and information desk.

The bonded pair are due to begin nesting together next week and will continue their scheduled activities.

In the meantime, the aquarium said caregivers are providing new experiences for the animals to explore and express their natural behaviour.

The Aquarium also released a still image of a rockhopper penguin named Wellington meeting a group of Amazonian black-barred silver dollar fish.
