Los Angeles: The mayor of Los Angeles on Monday confirmed some homes and buildings had burned in a wildfire on the city's west side.
The fire erupted in Sepulveda Pass which carries Interstate 405 through the Santa Monica Mountains.
Firefighters battled the flames that roared not far from the Getty Center museum which appeared not at threat from the westward-moving fire.
Fire Department officials said about 3,300 homes were threatened in the Mountaingate and Mandeville Canyon areas and that mandatory evacuation orders had expanded southwestward.
The blaze was believed to have grown to about 400 acres pushed by winds from 15 to 20 miles per hour, according to the mayor.
