Washington: Cherry Blossoms along the Washington Tidal Basin are in peak bloom, as visitors enjoy the warmer weather and the beautiful array of spring colors.
The blooming of the Yoshino cherry trees that surround the Tidal Basin began, this last week in March.
This year's peak bloom was predicted for the first week of April.
The National Park Service defines the peak bloom date as the day on which 70% of the blossoms are open.
The 12 different cultivars of Yoshino cherry trees that line the Tidal Basin were gifted to Washington in 1912 from Japan.
