Panama City, Florida: President Donald Trump on Wednesday told his supporters not to worry about this week's talks between US and Chinese negotiators, including his threat to increase tariffs on nearly all Chinese imports at the end of the week.

"We won't back down until China stops cheating our workers and stealing our jobs," he declared.

Trump addressed a crowd of thousands at an outdoor amphitheater in Panama City in Florida, looking to rally loyalists in the reliably Republican corner of the swing state as he kicks his 2020 efforts into high gear.

The President also said he decided to authorise new sanctions against Iran because he hoped "to be able at some point... to sit down and work out a fair (nuclear) deal".

Trump ordered new sanctions on Wednesday targeting Iran's steel, aluminum, copper and iron sectors, which provide foreign currency earnings for its sagging economy.

The move came just hours after Iran threatened to enrich its uranium stockpile closer to weapons-grade levels in 60 days if world powers failed to negotiate new terms for its 2015 nuclear deal.
