61-year-old woman delivered baby girl for her gay son

A 61-year-old woman, a mother of a gay couple, has delivered her own granddaughter in Omaha city in Nebraska. The woman adopted surrogacy method to give birth to a baby girl named Uma. The condition of baby girl, who weighs around 5 pounds, is stated to be stable.

Hyderabad: This may sound weird but a 61-year-old woman, a mother of a gay couple, has delivered her own granddaughter in Omaha city in Nebraska. The woman identified as Cecile has delivered the baby through surrogacy.

According to media reports, when Cecile's son Matthew Eledge (32) and his husband Elliot Dougherty (29) wanted to have their family, she expressed her eagerness to become a gestational carrier for them.

Though the couple appreciated the kind gesture of her but did not take it seriously as it was a very difficult task for a post-menopausal woman to deliver a baby.

Later, when the couple met reproductive endocrinologists to discuss surrogacy options to have their baby, Eledge put the offer provided by his mother to become a gestational carrier for them.

Cecile emerged as a ray of hope for the couple when their reproductive endocrinologists said she can be considered as an candidate for surrogacy provided she is healthy enough.

Following this, Cecile underwent through series of medical tests like pap smear, blood test, stress test, cholesterol test, a mammogram and etc, and found out to be fit enough to carry a fetus in her womb.

Cecile conceived in her very first embryo transfer done using an egg donated by her daughter Lea Yribe and sperm of her son-in-law Matthew.

After over two years of observation and medical treatment, she gave birth to the baby named Uma Louise Dougherty-Eledge on March 25.

The condition of baby girl Uma, who weighs around 5 pounds, is stated to be stable.
