Sudan military not to extradite al-Bashir

Defending the military's removal of Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir from the power, an army official said that the military was not going to extradite al-Bashir but would try him before the nation. He also said that al-Bashir's ouster "was not a coup" rather a response to the people's demand.

Khartoum: A Sudanese army official addressing a press conference on Friday said that the military authorities will not extradite deposed President Omar al-Bashir but would try him before the nation.

Col. General Omar Zain Abedeen said this while defending the military's removal of al-Bashir from the power.

He said that al-Bashir's ouster "was not a coup" rather a response to the people's demand.

The military had overthrown and arrested al-Bashir on Thursday taking charge of the country for the next two years.

He faces charges of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide for his deadly campaign against insurgents in Darfur and is wanted by International Criminal Court.
