Sudan: Khartoum returns to normal life

The Forces for Declaration of Freedom and Change, which represents the protesters had decided to suspend their general strike and campaign for civil disobedience until further notice. They called on Sudanese to resume their work.

Khartoum: As talks are set to resume between the Transitional Military Council (TMC) and the protest leaders, shops and businesses reopened this week in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.

Earlier over 100 people were killed in a crackdown launched by security forces.

Shop owners opened their businesses at Al-Araby Market in downtown Khartoum.

Abdo Hussein, a bag shop owner said, "We as merchants, we welcome the resumption of the negotiations between the Transitional Military Council and the Freedom and Change forces and the suspension of the disobedience and to continue our normal life so merchants can trade their merchandise."

The opposition Alliance for Freedom and Change had called Sudanese to resume their work on Wednesday.

The second largest city in Sudan, Omdurman had visibly more traffic than usual.

Mahmoud Dirir, the special envoy of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said, the army has agreed to release political prisoners as a confidence-building measure.
