Cairo: The mere thought of keeping a reptile or a scorpion as pet can bring chills down the spine to many, but some people in Egypt love keeping these exotic animals as pets.
Egypt's second annual exotic pet show called "Not just Cats and Dogs" in Giza allowed these exotic animal lovers to showcase their pets .
People from all over Egypt gathered in Giza to show off their scaliest and strangest friends, which include turtles, lizards, snakes, exotic birds, scorpions and spiders.

Boa snake, Nile Monitor or tarantula spiders at the show may frighten or disgust many but reptile collector Faris El-Fishawy says having exotic pets is so popular that breeding them has become competitive.
"This event is to help inform people that it's not just dogs and cats, really, that can be pets," said El-Fishawy.

"Keeping a reptile as a pet, it's something that might not be that common in Egypt," says Ramez Islam, founder of the exotic pet show. "There are lots of snakes that can be pets. There's a lot of information that we're trying to correct with this event."
Organisers say that the exotic pet show is a good way to educate people about what kind of animals are safe to be kept as pet.
