Hyderabad: Filmmaker Sudipto Sen's most recent film The Kerala Story is at high speed making its place in the list of top grossers of the year 2023. The film began on a controversial note but had a strong start in its second week in the cinema halls. It is quite an accomplishment for the movie that its box office collection on a second Monday is almost at par with that of its first Monday.
The movie will soon surpass Pathaan and become the second-highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2023. The movie is just a few crores away from taking over the second spot from Luv Ranjan's Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles.
As per an industry tracker, The Kerala Story garnered Rs 10 crore (early estimates) on its second Monday, bringing the total collection of the movie to about Rs 146.74 crore. Even the second weekend of the movie was better at the box office than the first weekend. Compared to its first Saturday's earnings of Rs 11.22 crore, it made Rs 19.50 crore on its second Saturday. In contrast to the previous Sunday's collection of Rs 16.40 crore, it brought in Rs 23.75 crore on this Sunday.

The Kerala Story's box office success is an "eye-opener" for the film industry, which has struggled to deliver success in the first five months of the year, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh. Only Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan was able to create hysteria at the box office. The movie started the year on a bang with a lifetime revenue of Rs 543.05 crore. Although Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar wasn't as successful as Pathaan, it nevertheless attracted a respectable audience and brought in Rs 149.05 crore.
