Fire breaks out in theatre as Jr NTR fans burst crackers to celebrate actor’s birthday

A fire broke out at a Vijayawada theatre as fans of Jr NTR burned firecrackers during the re-run of the actor's film Simhadri. Police had to be called in for the safe evacuation of people stuck in the theatre.

Hyderabad: Simhadri, a 2003 Telugu film starring Jr. NTR, was re-released in Telugu states on Friday to commemorate the actor's birthday. The film, which was upgraded and released in 4K, received positive reviews and had a strong opening weekend. However, after fans of the RRR actor burst firecrackers during the show, a fire broke out inside the cinema hall in Vijayawada, damaging a few seats.

While the film premiered to a jubilant reception everywhere, a freak accident occurred at the Apsara cinema in Vijayawada after a fire broke out. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media. The show had to be cancelled due to the freak accident. Police officers were rushed to the scene to regulate the crowd and assist everyone in exiting safely. In response to the incident, some fans took to Twitter to voice their outrage. They condemned the act and caled for strict action for the culprits.

Simhadri, directed by SS Rajamouli, was the director's second collaboration with Jr. NTR after Student No. 1. Over the weekend, the film had a wide re-release in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The release was designed to commemorate Jr. NTR's 40th birthday in grand style. Simhadri made a tremendous opening day with gross revenue of 5.14 crore.

Jr NTR is presently filming Devara, his forthcoming Telugu film. This is his second collaboration with director Koratala Siva. Janhvi Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, who plays the antagonist, make their Telugu film debut with this one. A few days ago, Saif Ali Khan arrived on set, where the squad gave him a warm greeting; photographs of which were widely circulated on social media. Makers of Devara published the first look poster along with the title on Jr NTR's birthday, in a way to treat his fans, who had been waiting for an update on the project.
