Hyderabad: Bollywood director Sanjay Gadhvi of Dhoom and Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai fame died on Sunday following a heart attack. The filmmaker was 56 years old and would have turned 57 in three days. He is survived by his wife, Gina, and two daughters.

Breaking the news, Filmmaker Sanjay Gadhvi's daughter, Sanjina Gadhvi, said that he was in perfect health. His daughter, Sanjina Gadhvi, shared this information with a news portal revealing, "He passed away at 9.30 am this morning. Although we are not certain, it is most likely due to a heart attack. He was not unwell, he was perfectly healthy."

According to reports, the filmmaker experienced chest pain while taking his usual morning walk in Lokhandwala. He was sweating excessively and was immediately rushed to Kokilaben Ambani Hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival. His funeral is scheduled for Sunday evening at his residence in Mumbai.

Sanjay Gadhvi's directorial journey began with the 2000 film Tere Liye. He directed several films under the Yash Raj Films banner, including the successful Dhoom franchise, comprising Dhoom and Dhoom:2. Furthermore, he directed the 2002 film Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, featuring Jimmy Shergill, Uday Chopra, Tulip Joshi and others, and Kidnap in 2008, starring Sanjay Dutt, Imran Khan, and Minissha Lamba.

In 2012, he directed Ajab Gazabb Love, featuring Arjun Rampal, and in 2020, Operation Parindey, starring Amit Sadh and Rahul Dev. Ironically, despite delivering two blockbusters, Dhoom and Dhoom:2, in the same franchise, his future growth as a sought-after director became stagnant due to inexplicable reasons.

Upon learning about Gadhvi's sudden demise, Yash Raj Film Studio's paid rich tributes to him. In a tweet on X, YRF wrote: "The magic he created on screen will be cherished forever. May his soul rest in peace." Similarly, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to his official X handle (formerly known as Twitter) to express his deep condolences.
