Hyderabad: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Tuesday that the film The Kerala Story will be tax-free in the state. Adityanath's declaration comes a day after the West Bengal government, led by Mamata Banerjee, banned the film, which follows the story of a group of Kerala women who are forced to convert and join the militant organisation Islamic State.

Earlier on Saturday, MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that the film would be tax-free in the state, a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the film for exposing terror conspiracies and used it to criticise the Congress during a rally in Karnataka. "In Madhya Pradesh, we have already passed a law prohibiting religious conversion. Everyone should watch this film because it raises awareness. It is recommended for parents, children, and daughters to watch. That is why the Madhya Pradesh government has granted the film tax-free status," Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared that he, his cabinet colleagues, and family members will watch The Kerala Story, but clarified that he is not endorsing the film. During a press briefing on Monday, Sarma stated: "We will all go watch it on May 11. I'm not going to promote the film. I'll just sit and watch."
On Sunday, Bengaluru's Garuda Mall hosted a special screening of the contentious film, which was attended by BJP national president J.P. Nadda. "This movie shows a new kind of poisonous terrorism that is without weapons," Nadda stated after seeing the film.
