Hyderabad: Much to the delight of Harry Potter fans, Google Doodle on Sunday paid glowing tribute to late British acting legend Alan Rickman for his iconic Broadway performance in Les Liaisons Dangereuses.

On this day in 1987, Alan Rickman performed in Les Liaisons Dangereuses, a Broadway play that was instrumental in launching his career. The actor, popular for playing potions master Severus Snape in the fantasy magical universe of "Harry Potter" among other roles, starred in the play "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" on April 30, 1987.

Rickman died on January 14, 2016, at the age of 69 following a battle with cancer. The Broadway presentation had a significant role in launching Rickman's career in the entertainment industry after he left his job as a graphic designer.

Besides his most famous character Professor Snape in the screen adaptation of JK Rowling's books, Rickman played key roles such as Hans Gruber in "Die Hard" and won a Bafta Award for playing the Sheriff of Nottingham in 1991's "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves".

He was also known for playing screen villains, including the role of Judge Turpin opposite Johnny Depp in the 2007s "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street". Some of his last performances were in the Coen Brothers' film "Gambit", as Ronald Reagan in "Lee Daniels", "The Butler", and as a humorous King Louis XIV in "A Little Chaos".

Scores of Harry Potter fans shared pictures of the doodle on social media and mentioned how they will remember him ‘always’. “Google doodle in onore di Alan Rickman. Always,” wrote a fan. “Nice to see Alan Rickman being remembered by Google today,” wrote another. Others shared movie recommendations for Alan fans. “Since Google is Celebrating Alan Rickman. Let's just say If you haven't watched Dogma, please watch it! Alan Rickman was amazing in it,” read a tweet. A fan also raised awareness for pancreatic cancer. “Google is celebrating the wonderful Alan Rickman today. Honour him by not letting your loved ones die way to young,” he wrote.
