Thiruvananthapuram: In a bid to motivate the electorate and spread the message of the importance of voting, the Indian Railways in association with the Election Commission have roped in Kerala Express, the long distance train, to spread awareness in the state.
The express train has messages displayed on them including the helpline number and National Voters Service Portal address. The aim is to encourage voters to exercise their franchise.
The voter awareness campaign is a joined initiative by the Election Commission and the Indian railways. The Chief Electoral Officer in Kerala, Tikka Ram Meena flagged off the express train.
Kerala Express is one among the four long-distance trains roped in by the Election Commission. The campaign is a part of Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiative to create voter education and promote voter literacy in India.
Meanwhile, the other express trains flagged off by the respective chief electoral officers include Himasagar Express, Howrah Express and Guwahati Express.
