Over 900 government employees die due to Covid in Chhattisgarh

So far, more than 900 government officials and employees have died of Corona in Chhattisgarh. Employee unions say that despite having rendered services amid the surge in Covid-19 cases, they are struggling for treatment and medical reimbursement.

Raipur (Chhattisgarh): Frontline warriors, as well as government employees, are providing selfless services to the public in these trying times. So far, more than 900 officers and personnel have died in Chhattisgarh due to Covid-19.

Employee unions say that despite having rendered services amidst the Covid surge, they are struggling for treatment and medical reimbursement, after hospitalization.

Many contract workers have also died due to the pandemic. In such a situation, the government is being demanded to provide pension and compassionate appointments to contract employees.

Covid-19 mortality was maximum seen among the employees working in the Health Department, School Education Department, Home Department, and Water Resources Department. Even those involved in the Ministries, Directorates, Collectorate, Corporations, Commissionerates too lost their lives.

In this context, the employee organizations have demanded the state government to relax the rules and ensure that the Kith and Kin of the deceased be provided with jobs.

State President of Chhattisgarh's Government Employees Union, Vijay Kumar Jha said that so far more than 900 government officials and employees have died in the state during the Corona period as per official data. Apart from this, many contract workers have also lost their lives.

Not just that the employees have also been instructed to attend work and instructions in this regard have been issued by the General Administration Department.

Jha added that the government has decided to give a compensation of Rs 1 lakh under compassionate grounds to contract workers in case of death.

However, the union demands that contract workers should not be employed during these trying times, and if they are allotted work, they should also be given all benefits and allowances.

In view of the prevailing conditions, the rules should be relaxed, and that if any employees die while on duty, it is the responsibility of the government to help their families.
