Puri: With general election round the corner, Puri district administration is leaving no stone unturned to smoothly conduct the polls. But what has raised the eyebrows of many is that a panchayat in the district has more voters than its population.
In Gopinathpur Panchayat the total population in the village exceeds 1,500 voters. The mismatch came to light after a villager filed a case through the Right to Information Act following which the district administration assured to take note of the shortcoming.
According to the census report, Gopinathpur Panchayat has 4040 population in 2011, however the RTI report says it has 5,555.
The matter has been brought to the notice of the block development officer, who has promised to look into the matter.
