Juna Akhara welcomes PM Modi's appeal for symbolic Mahakumbh

Amidst the unprecedented crisis, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for a symbolic Mahakumbh has been welcomed by the saints of Juna Akhara. Hundreds of devotees, several top saints and policemen who participated in the Mahakumbh festival have tested positive for COVID.

Haridwar (Uttarakhand): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday appealed for Kumbh Mela to now be 'only symbolic' given the Corona crisis, adding that it will help strengthen the fight.

The sages have welcomed the PM's appeal to symbolically celebrate Mahakumbh.

National Spokesperson of Juna Akhara Narayan Giri Maharaj said that the Mahakumbh will be celebrated symbolically in view of the Corona epidemic, which is spreading fast throughout the nation, adding that Juna Akhara has always stood with the government since the beginning of Kumbh Mela.

The Juna Akhara had instructed devotees not to attend Haridwar in large numbers for the Kumbh Mela, and that only saints be allowed for the 'Shahi Snaan' in the Ganges.

"Spoke to Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Pujya Swami Awadheshanand Giri Ji on the phone today. Enquired about the health of all the saints and I thank them for their support to the administration. I also express my gratitude to the saint world for this," PM Modi tweeted.
