Kolkata (West Bengal): Union Minister Babul Supriyo, who is contesting assembly elections from the Tollygunge constituency in West Bengal, stoked a controversy by allegedly slapping a person at the party office in Kolkata.

In a footage that went viral on Monday, the singer and BJP leader is seen allegedly slapping a person who had repeatedly asked him to campaign seriously instead of posing and giving bites in front of TV cameras.

The alleged incident took place on Sunday at the Bharatiya Janata Party office in the Ranikuthi area of the Tollygunge constituency.

Condemning Babul Supriyo's behaviour, Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said that his party wants to know whether the person who was slapped by the former is 'an outsider of the Trinamool Congress' or a 'Vibhishan' (a member of the BJP).

As the issue turned controversial, Babul Supriyo issued a clarification saying that he did not slap, instead only gestured to do so.
