Court dismisses PIL against Lakshadweep reforms

The Kerala High Court on Thursday dismissed the PIL challenging the Lakshadweep administration's reform measures, adding that they were still in the draft stage.

Ernakulam (Kerala): The Kerala high court on Thursday dismissed the PIL challenging the Lakshadweep administration's reform measures. The division bench dismissed the plea observing that the alleged reform measures were at the draft stage and hence refused to entertain it. The petitioner in his plea had requested the court to immediately stay the reforms.

When the court had sought a response from the Lakshadweep administration on whether it would completely ban beef on the island. The Lakshadweep administration responded by saying that the enforcement of reforms are in the initial phase and a decision regarding this will be taken into consideration based on public opinion. The court had criticized the petitioner while considering the petition on Wednesday, saying that the petition would be dismissed. The PIL was filed by KPCC secretary Naushad Ali.

Praful Khoda Patel, who was given the charge of Administrator of Lakshadweep following the demise of Dineshwar Sharma in December last year, has been facing criticism for some time over his policy decisions. Opposition parties in Lakshadweep and the neighbouring states have termed his policies as "anti-people" and have sought his recall, reports said.
