ISJK Commander arrested in Jammu

Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested Islamic State of Jammu and Kashmir (ISJK) commander Malik Umair. He was arrested from Jhajjar Kotli on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. According to the police, the ISJK commander was given arms and money to carry out a terror attack in the Union Territory.

Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Police thwarted a terror attack plot by apprehending the commander of the Islamic State of Jammu and Kashmir (ISJK) from Jammu. Inspector-General of Police of Jammu Zone Mukesh Singh gave the information on Sunday.

Singh said that Malik Umair alias Abdullah was arrested by the Special Operations Team of Jammu Police from Jhajjar Kotli on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. Malik Umair is a resident of Yaripora village in the Kulgam district of South Kashmir.

The IGP said that on the basis of concrete information, the ISJK commander was arrested at around 7 pm, eight cartridges and Rs 1.13 lakh were recovered from him. His arrest has foiled the terror outfit's attempt to carry out a terrorist attack.

According to the police officer, on having received prior information about the possibility of the terrorist commander arriving, the police had launched a search operation in Jhajjar Kotli. During this time a person tried to escape, he was chased and caught. A pistol and money in cash were recovered from his bag.

He said that this person turned out to be the commander of ISJK, who during interrogation revealed that he was provided arms and cash for carrying out a terrorist attack in the valley. Police have registered a case and an investigation is underway.
