Sirohi (Rajasthan): An earthquake, measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale, struck parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan at 10:31 pm on Wednesday.
As per the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR), the quake struck Palanpur in Gujarat's Banaskantha at 10:31 pm on Wednesday. It had a latitude of 24.300 N, a longitude of 72.711 E and depth of 3.1-Km.
According to Bhawna Arora, a resident of Sirohi said, "We were watching CWC’19. I was sitting on the floor at the time of the earthquake and felt moderate vibrations which continued for a few seconds. It was not too late to realize that it wasn’t a normal thing, I told my husband about the same. He didn’t feel anything much as he was sitting on the chair. Later a family member inquired on the WhatsApp family group that whether we are safe or not?? And when we googled about the news, it was everywhere."
Another resident said, "It was a loud boom and I felt like someone dropped a bomb not far ago. It made sense only after I got to know that the epicentre was just 20kms or so from here." However, there are no reports of any injuries or loss of property so far.
On January 26, 2011, the state witnessed it's worst earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Moment magnitude scale. The quake was felt across much of the Indian subcontinent, and official government figures cited 13,800 fatalities and 166,000 injuries.
