Madhya Pradesh cracks down on illegal Covid medicines

Police in Madhya Pradesh busted a racket engaged in the black marketing of Remdesivir injections and arrested three persons. Many instances, across several states, of Remdesivir black marketing have been cropping up amid its shortage as India struggles amid the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh police have been directed to curb incidents of black marketing and illegal sale of Remdesivir injections taking place in the city.

Based on a tip-off, the Indore Crime Branch along with Sanwer Police Station personnel arrested three people - Tipu Khan, Shahrukh Shah and Zafar Khan. The Crime Branch personnel lured the accused saying that they needed the injection at any cost and struck a deal with the accused to purchase the anti-viral drug for Rs 17,000.

In the investigation, it was revealed that the accused Tipu Khan used to work in Indore's Manpur Diagnostic Covid Centre and that from long he has been associated with the black-marketing of the drug at very high prices in the city. While the other Zafar Khan had been working in Global Health Care Pvt company in Vadodara for about 18 months.

Now, police are interrogating the trio for details regarding all the transactions done previously to track those people connected with the black marketing racket.

A case has also been registered against the accused under Section 188 of the Pandemic Act 1897, 24 Madhya Pradesh State Medical Council Act (1956 & 1958).

Police have revealed that the injection seized from the accused has been manufactured by a Bangladesh-based firm - Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd and that the company had been blacklisted for selling an injection titled 'Ninavir Remdesivir'.
