Hamirpur (Himachal Pradesh): Though, 28 Sainik Schools are functioning in the country helping the students to cherish their dream of serving the nation as an Army officer, a Sujanpur based defence School which is also popularly known as nursery of the National Defence Academy (NDA), has so many glorious achievements to note down.
The Sainik School Sujanpur, Tihra is 18th in the series of 28 Sainik Schools in the country. The foundation of the school was laid by the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi in 1974 and was inaugurated by His Excellency Shri Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy, the then President of India on 2nd Nov 1978.
This school has contributed 450 military officers to the country.
Every year more than 15-20 students of this school get selected in NDA, which is the highest among the 28 schools running across the country.
Due to immense contribution in the field of defence, this school has bagged the Minister of State for Defense Trophy twice in a row and a total of 4 times so far.
It was in 1984, the first batch of twelfth grade passed out of the school.
The first batch of 1984 comprised Prateek Mohil, Sanjeev Kumar Sood, Sudhir Kumar who were selected for NDA and after this Sainik School, Sujanpur did not look back.
Every year this figure kept increasing and each year more and more students were selected in NDA to serve the country.
Kargil martyred Major Sudhir Kumar Walia of Palampur was an alumnus of this school.

The team of ETV Bharat visited the school to find the forté of the school that has been fortifying the students to scale tough competition wall to reach NDA.
At present, a total of 521 students are studying in the school in grades from sixth to 12th. The daily schedule of this school is not a 'bed of roses'.
After waking up at five in the morning, the routine of students begins with jogging at the historic Sujanpur ground. This is followed by morning PT dress inspection and then breakfast. After the students are ready for house assembly by 8:15 am in the morning.
A formal course of studies starts at 8:30 and continue until lunch. Students are allowed to take rest for an hour. Then begins the round of games and extra activities. Apart from studies and sports, students enjoy watching television. Children can also take up swimming as a hobby and professional sports.
While collecting information about the school, we stuck at a quote written by Kargil martyred Major Sudhir Kumar Walia which says, "I won't die in an accident or die any of disease, I will go down in glory."
