New Delhi: Priyanka Gandhi, the general secretary of the All India Congress Committee in charge of Uttar Pradesh, has termed the allegations of corruption in the purchase of Ram Temple land a scam. The Congress leader put out a social media post on the issue. The Shri Ram Mandir Teerth Kshetra Trust has been accused by the opposition parties of malpractices in the purchase of land. The Samajwadi Party and Aam Aadmi Party have alleged that the trust has purchased the land worth Rs 2 crore for Rs 18.5 crore. Later the Indian National Congress also jumped into this controversy and raised questions on the temple trust as well as the BJP-led government. However, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has come forward to defend the temple trust in the matter.

Earlier, Champat Rai, the General Secretary of the 'Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra' issued a clarification on the allegations made by the Opposition regarding the purchase of land for the temple premises, saying the allegations were misleading and urged people not to fall for them.

What exactly did Priyanka Gandhi mention in her post?

According to reports, there is a scam in the purchase of land by Shri Ram Mandir Nirman Trust.

  • On March 18, 2021, two people buy land in Ayodhya for Rs 2 crore.
  • It is worth noting that this land is not for the construction of the temple, but is away from the temple premises.
  • This land, worth Rs 2 crore, was bought by the Shri Ram Mandir Nirman Trust set up by the Prime Minister for Rs 18.5 crore just five minutes later (the persons bought the land for Rs 2 crore from its original owners and within five minutes of the purchase, sold it to the Trust for Rs 18.5 crore). That is, the price of land increased at the rate of Rs 5.5 lakh per second. Can anyone believe this? Don't forget, all this money was given by the people of India in the form of donations and offerings for the construction of the temple.
  • The names of the witnesses in the deed and registry related to the purchase and sale of land are the same. One witness is a trustee of the temple (who has been a former provincial caretaker of the RSS) and the other witness is a BJP leader and mayor of Ayodhya.
  • In a statement issued by the Secretary of Shri Ram Mandir Trust, it has been said that the rates of land increased, and hence paid accordingly.
  • According to the information, if we calculate the circle rate, the price of this land in this area will be around Rs 5 crore.
  • According to the reports in yesterday's newspapers, the president of Ram Mandir Nirman Trust Mahant Shri Nritya Gopal Das has accused of arbitrariness and opacity in the operations carried out by the trust and the chief priest of Ramlala has also demanded an investigation into the purchase of this land.

The Congress leader concluded her post saying," Inspired by faith and devotion, crores of people of the country made offerings to the temple of Lord Ram. Many of our sisters in reverence towards Lord Ram and Mother Sita offered their deposits at his feet. People's faith, devotion and faith are intertwined in that offering."
