'Naga Accord will not interfere in the territorial integrity of other states'

Government sources have informed that the much-hyped Naga Accord may be announced before coming Christmas. Tapir Gao, Lok Sabha MP from Arunachal Pradesh said that in a recent meeting between Amit Shah and Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister it was conveyed that 'sentiment and emotion' of the people of Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh will be kept in mind. However, talks with a few stakeholders are yet to take place over the issue.

New Delhi: Home Minister Amit Shah has assured Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu that territorial integrity of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Assam will not be compromised in the proposed 'Naga Accord'.

Sources in the government, meanwhile, said that the much-hyped Naga Accord may be announced before coming Christmas.

"Hon'ble Home Minister Amit Shah has assured our Chief Minister Pema Khandu that territorial integrity of Arunachal Pradesh will not be compromised in the Naga Accord," said Tapir Gao, Lok Sabha MP from Arunachal Pradesh.

Tapir Gao said that in a recent meeting between Amit Shah and Pema Khandu it was conveyed that 'sentiment and emotion' of the people of these three states will be kept in mind.

"Chief Minister of Assam and Manipur have also conveyed to Home Minister that territorial integrity will not be compromised," said the BJP MP while talking to ETV Bharat.

For the last few weeks, commotion went high in Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh following reports that 'Naga Accord' might impact the territorial integrity of these three states.

A delegation from Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh have met Home Ministry officials to get clarity on the issue.

In fact, former Chief Minister of Manipur Okram Ibobi Singh has also staged a protest demonstration opposing the reported move of compromising the territorial integrity of Manipur.

It was since 1997 that Government and National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN (IM)), a Naga militant group, are in talks to bring everlasting peace in the region.

The NSCN (IM) has earlier demanded inclusion of Naga inhabited areas of Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh in 'Greater Nagalim' area.

The demand was, however, denied by the Centre.

Sources in the government said that the final Peace Accord will be announced before Christmas.

"Talks with a few stakeholders are yet to take place over the issue," sources said.

In fact, Home Minister Amit Shah had earlier said that all the stakeholders will be consulted before the central government announce any Peace Accord.
