Delhi: Delhi: Samyukta Kisan Morcha in a letter addressed to President Ramnath Kovind sought his intervention on the brutal killing of farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh. In the letter, they stated, "The whole country was shocked by the incident of the brutal killing of farmers in broad daylight by mowing them down with vehicles in Lakhimpur Kheri on Sunday. Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Kumar Mishra Teni's son Ashish Mishra and his accomplices carried out this murderous attack in a brazen manner, which shows a conspiracy of Uttar Pradesh and Central governments. Ajay Mishra had already built a context to this attack by giving inflammatory and derogatory speeches against the farmers. It was no coincidence that on the same day, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had incited his party workers to take up lathis and indulge in violence against farmers".
It further said, "It is clear from these incidents that these persons sitting on constitutional posts are using their positions for planned violence against farmers, who launched a peaceful agitation. This is a crime as per the laws of the country. Therefore, we are demanding that the Central government sack the Union Home Minister Ajay Mishra Teni from his post and a case should be filed against him for inciting violence and spreading communal hatred; the Union Minister's son Ashish Mishra aka Monu and his aides should be immediately arrested; the investigation of this incident should be conducted by an SIT under the supervision of the Supreme Court and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who is inciting violence while holding a constitutional post, should be sacked from his post."
AAP MP Sanjay Singh was stopped by police at Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh when he was en route to Lakhimpur Kheri in the early hours of Monday, a day after eight people died as violence erupted during a farmers' protest there. The AAP leader was stopped by the police and the local administration at Biswan in Sitapur around 2.30 am while going to Lakhimpur Kheri to meet the family members of the farmers killed in the violence, party said. Singh is still at the spot and has refused to step back, an AAP leader added.
"MP Sanjay Singh, who was on his way to meet the family members of those farmers, who died in the violence, and pay his condolences, has been kept halted on the roadside since late on Sunday night," senior AAP leader and Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said in a tweet. "Yogiji, tears of the family members of the farmers will weigh heavy on you," he added.
Farmers agitation in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh was finding its echo in Delhi. Notably, whenever the law and order problem arises in neighbouring states of Delhi, transportation to and from the metropolitan city was being affected. On Monday, too, the road transport to Uttar Pradesh district has been affected owing to violence in Lakhimpur Kheri. Many farmers suffered injuries in the Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh when BJP workers' car ran over the farmers, who came to protest against Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya. Furious farmers have also set fire to many vehicles of BJP workers. To control the situation, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has sent ADG (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar to Lakhimpur Kheri. So far eight people have died in the ruckus.
