It is known that CM Tirath Singh Rawat is not an MLA, but a Lok Sabha MP, and to continue in his post, Rawat has to be an elected member of the legislative assembly before the completion of six months on September 9. The BJP MP from Garhwal, Tirath Singh Rawat had sworn in as the Uttarakhand CM in March 2021, replacing Trivendra Singh Rawat. As a result, it is imperative for him to contest in the bypolls. Earlier, On May 5, the Election Commission of India had refused to hold the by-election citing pandemic fears.

But according to the Election Commission, it has also been decided that if one year or less is left for the assembly elections in any state, then by-elections cannot be held. In such a situation, the only option left with the BJP high command is to change the leadership. However, had Tirath Singh Rawat contested from the Salt assembly seat, then perhaps this situation would not have happened today.

Now, given the circumstances, it is learnt that the high command has made up its mind to change the leadership once again in the state of Uttarakhand. If there is no change of leadership in the state now, then Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat will have to resign himself after the completion of 6 months tenure i.e on 9th September. After this only three months will be left for the upcoming assembly elections in the state.

However, a big question arises that after Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat's resignation, who will be the next head of the state? The situation in this regard is not yet clear. But from the developments going on in the politics of the state these days, it is clear that a big change is awaited.
