Chengalpattu (Tamil Nadu): Eleven Covid patients died in Chengalpattu govt hospital allegedly due to oxygen shortage. The shortage in oxygen supply was reported to have lasted for more than three hours.
According to reports, there was a disruption in oxygen supply from 10 'o clock in the night.

There are many other patients who are being treated for life-threatening conditions at the hospital.
Relatives of the deceased have blamed the administration for the lack of oxygen. One of them was heard saying, "This is my father, for all of us he is like a King. There are a lot of patients. The doctors are crying because they could not save lives."
Three hours after the incident, oxygen was brought in and with the cooperation of the police, the situation at the hospital was brought under control.
Chengalpattu District Collector John Lewis reached the spot and took stock of the situation, adding that an investigation is underway.

With the spread of Covid infection in Tamil Nadu, more than 1500 people are being infected daily in the district. On Tuesday alone, 1608 people were infected with Covid in Chengalpattu district and over 500 people are being treated for the infection at the Government Hospital here.
Due to inadequate oxygen supply, as an alternative, the government has deployed private ambulances to help provide oxygen to those in critical condition.
