Chandigarh: Farmers have been protesting against the Centre's three contentious farm laws for the last seven months. They have been demanding the repeal of these laws and batting for a legislation that would guarantee a Minimum Support Price for their crops. Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar clarified to ETV Bharat that the government had no plans to repeal the laws. However, it was ready for talks with farmers. This statement of the minister has drawn a sharp reaction from Rakesh Tikait, national spokesperson of the Bharatiya Kisan Union.
In a tweet, Tikait warned, "The government is not going to agree. You have to give the treatment. Be prepared with tractors. The movement has to be intensified to save the land." Tikait, representing the farmers' protest, had earlier said that the government should not be under the impression that the farmers will back off and that the farmers will leave Delhi only when their demands are met.

The farmers' movement began on 26 November last year. Braving harsh winter, the hot summer and even the monsoon, they have been taking out protests, making their intentions clear.
