Jharsuguda: Odisha Health & Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das on Thursday ordered a probe into the incident of administering saline to a dead person at Jharsuguda District Headquarter Hospital (DHH) yesterday.
The matter was taken into consideration after the video of the incident went viral on social media. Notably, a man identified as Khetramani Kisan (30) of Jalibahal village under Laikera block in this district had consumed pesticides.
Following this, his family members rushed him to Jharsuguda district headquarter hospital. On reaching the DHH, no doctors and none from the hospital staff came to attend the critical patient.
However, he succumbed as he was left unattended for nearly an hour. Later, a group of nurses gathered near the dead body and started administering saline and injection to the deceased.
This incident raises a serious concern of the healthcare facility in the government-run hospital and the lackadaisical attitude of the doctors in the DHH, who did not make it up to the critical patient even after an hour of arrival.
Following the allegations of medical negligence, Jharsuguda CDMO in-charge, Dolamani Patel refuted the charges. Patel said, “No injection was given after the patient was declared dead. The injection might have been given before he was declared dead by the doctors. It’s an attempt to defame us.”
