Bengaluru: Bengaluru Central Division Police have registered a suo moto case against a Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) booth level officer, for thrashing a teenager and 2 others after they refused to undergo test for COVID 19.
The youngster went to BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) to get registered for vaccination but when the OTP was generated, he realized the registration was for a COVID test which he did not want to take, which led to a heated argument and assault.

A purported video of the incident has gone viral on social media platforms, where two of the BBMP Booth level officers were seen manhandling three youngsters, forcing them to undergo an RT-PCR test. The video drew flak from the citizens, forcing BBMP Commissioner Gaurav Gupta to express regret.
"We regret the incident at Nagarathpet testing booth. There is no question of forceful testing. We condemn any physical altercation that has happened. Inquiry will be conducted to find out what led to this, who is responsible, and also to prevent any such recurrence," Gupta tweeted.

Director-General of Police (DCP) of Central Bengaluru, PI Halasurugate, "A case has been registered under IPC sections 341, 323, 504 against the errant official and investigation is underway."
