Karnataka: The Bengaluru Central Crime Branch (CCB) conducted raids at the Parapanna Agrahara Jail and in eight other locations, according to sources. CCB sleuths having stormed the said locations at 5 am along with a dog squad, seized mobile phones, ganja, knives, cigarette, memory cards and sim cards, said Sandeep Patil, the Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), adding that the raids were held to monitor rowdy activities.
According to Bengaluru DCP (West), the police conducted extensive raids at houses of rowdies in the Bengaluru West Division. Raids were also conducted in Kamakshipalya and Byadarahalli areas since 5 am this morning, wherein 1000 houses were raided and 76 detained.

The search operations in the residences of rowdy sheeters were carried out simultaneously by police from 8 zones of the city. There has been an increase in criminal activity in Bengaluru especially after the lockdown, with several murder cases linked to financial issues and personal hatred having been registered at police stations. In the light of the investigation, police found out that criminals were using high-end technology to plans these crimes from jail.
Therefore the Bengaluru City Commissioner Kamal Pant, IPS held a meeting with the Additional Commissioners and DCPs, instructing them to cut down on criminal activity and also issue a warning to all rowdy sheeters. Recently, it was also revealed that the murders linked to the underworld which took place in the city were executed from Parapanna Agrahara prison. This also includes the murder of financier Madan near Banashankari. It is in this backdrop that the Central Crime Branch (CCB) conducted the raids.

In this connection, Hubballi-Dharwad (West) MLA Arvind Bellad had earlier made a sensational phone tapping claim, alleging that he was getting calls from a jailed extortion accused, Yuvaraj Swamy. Even the jail is under scrutiny over the issue and it is informed that the barracks of prisoners and interrogators are being investigated.
