What is the letter about?
In a letter to the Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik, AP CM Jagan Mohan Reddy said that the two states have so far treated each other with mutual respect and trust on issues related to Andhra-Odisha. He wished to continue the same further even with regards to the issue of NERADI Barrage which is a disputed issue between both the states.
He mentioned the final verdict of the Vamsadhara Water Dispute Tribunal (VWDT) issued on September 13, 2017, which allowed the construction of a barrage across the Vamsadhara river in Srikakulam District and also allowed the establishment of a sluice (water channel controlled at its head with a gate) in Odisha on the left side of the barrage.

On this verdict, Odisha had filed a petition in the Tribunal seeking clarification on this. He also mentioned that a special leave petition was pending in the Supreme Court.
"These issues can be amicably resolved between both the states before the commencement of operation of NERADI Barrage" Jagan stated.
He also mentioned that the lack of proper projects on the Vamsadhara River has led to 80 TMCs of water flow into the sea every year. He also urged the Odisha government to publish the final verdict of the Vamsadhara Tribunal and make it possible for the construction of the barrage.
