Bengaluru: Online video conferencing company Zoom said it will set up a new technology centre in Bengaluru and start hiring very soon in the country to support local and global growth.
“This commitment represents a growing strategic investment in the country, where Zoom already has one office in Mumbai (which is expected to triple in size) and two data centers in Mumbai and Hyderabad,” the company said, as the users number is surging over few months.
This move has been announced by the company amid increasing COVID-19 cases and as people from various profession are hanging on to video conferencing which has turned out to be the new normal.
From January to April 2020, Zoom free users have seen a rise of 6,700%. Other tech companies are not sitting still as Mukesh Ambani backed JioMeet was launched in latest AGM followed by rival Bharti Airtel partnering with U.S.-based telecom services provider Verizon to introduce BlueJeans in India. Other video conferencing solutions available are Google Meet, Cisco Webex and Skype .
“This expansion into Bengaluru will supplement Zoom’s existing R&D centers and support Zoom’s engineering leadership, which is based at its San Jose, California headquarters,” Zoom said.

The company said they selected Bengaluru as the location for the centre because of the exceptional engineering and I.T. talent. The company will immediately begin recruiting DevOps engineers, I.T., Security, and Business Operations headcount in the area. Employees will work from home until the pandemic comes to control.

Yuan, CEO of Zoom, said.
Technology centre in Bengaluru, will be an innovation hub for the company’s communications platform said Velchamy Sankarlingam, President of Product and Engineering for Zoom.
“The launch of a technology centre in Bengaluru represents Zoom’s strategy of developing its cutting-edge communications technology in multiple locations globally. The centre will play a vital role as a source of innovation for Zoom, leveraging some of India’s most talented professionals,” the company quoted.
