Business Desk, ETV Bharat: India’s corporate major Tata Steel has announced social security schemes for families of employees affected by Covid-19.
According a statement released by the company, it will pay deceased employees' salaries, housing and medical benefits until what would have been their retirement at the age of 60.
“Tata Steel’s best-in-class social security schemes will help ensure an honourable standard of living for their families, whereby the family will get the last drawn salary till 60 years of age of the deceased employee/nominee along with medical benefits and housing facilities,” said the statement.
The company also announced additional benefits like education allowance to the families of its frontline employees who died of Covid-19.
“In addition to this, for all its frontline employees who as part of their job, met with an unfortunate death due to Covid-19, the company bears all the expenses of their children’s education till graduation in India,” added the statement.

According to an earlier statement by the company, it has been managing/operating over 1,600 beds that include COVID positive beds, COVID ICU beds and isolations beds.
Besides performing Covid-19 tests on a daily basis across all its locations, the company has been vaccinating its healthcare workers and frontline workers since January 16 in all the Company owned hospitals at the operating locations, added the statement.
It is also supplying Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) daily to hospitals in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal, Haryana and Delhi through its manufacturing units in Jamshedpur, Kalinganagar and Dhenkanal.
Tata Steel group is among the top global steel companies with an annual crude steel capacity of 34 million tonnes per annum.
