New Delhi: Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), Durgapur, has supplied the first batch of 30 Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB)wheels to the Indian Railways for LHB coaches, notified the steel ministry on Tuesday.
The Indian Railways has switched from ICF coaches to the LHB coaches as they are considered more safe and with higher speed but the wheels for these coaches are presently being imported.
SAIL said that it has developed the wheels in collaboration with DSP and supply of first 30 wheels from SAIL is another step to substitute the import. SAIL was given an order of supplying 1000 wheels by the Indian Railways and it has supplied the first consignment of 30 as of now.

SAIL also substituted import by supplying loco wheels. It produces around 70,000 forged wheels annually.
