Maruti, Mahindra sold less vehicles in February

Automobile companies saw a poor show in February sales data. Maruti, Mahindra have a seen a fall in the total sales due to unforeseeable challenges on the parts-supply from China.

New Delhi: Auto majors reported a decline in their February sales data because of the unforeseeable challenges on the parts-supply from China. The unforeseen coronavirus outbreak has severely affected the automobile sector disrupting its production and impacting sales in the month.

Vehicles sold in February

M&M sales fall 42%

Auto major Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) on Sunday reported a 42 per cent decline in total sales at 32,476 units in February.

The company had sold 56,005 units in the same month last year, M&M said in a statement.

In the domestic market, sales were down 42 per cent to 30,637 units last month as compared with 52,915 units in February 2019.

In the passenger vehicles segment, which includes utility vehicles, cars and vans, M&M sold 10,938 vehicles in February this year as against 26,109 vehicles in the same month last year, a decline of 58 per cent.

Commercial vehicles sales fell 25 per cent to 15,856 units as against 21,154 units a year ago.

Maruti Suzuki sales dip 1%

The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) reported a 1.1 per cent decline in sales at 1,47,110 units in February.

The company had sold 1,48,682 units in February last year, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said in a statement.

Domestic sales dropped 1.6 per cent to 1,36,849 units last month as against 1,39,100 units in February 2019, it added.

However, sales of utility vehicles, including Vitara Brezza, S-Cross and Ertiga, rose 3.5 per cent to 22,604 units as compared with 21,834 units in the year-ago month, MSI said.

Hyundai sales dip 10%

Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) reported a 10.3 per cent decline in total sales at 48,910 units.

The company had sold 54,518 units in the same month last year, HMIL said in a statement.

Domestic sales were down 7.2 per cent to 40,010 units as against 43,110 units in February 2019, it added.

MG Motor Feb retail sales take hit due to component supply constraints

MG Motor India reported retail sales of 1,376 units in February, hit by component supply constraints from coronavirus hit-China and other locations.

The company had retailed 3,130 units in January.

Tata Motors domestic sales drop 34%

Tata Motors Ltd reported a decline of 34 per cent in domestic sales at 38,002 units in February.

The company had sold 57,221 units in the same month last year.

Honda Cars domestic sales decline 46%

Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) reported a 46.26 per cent drop in domestic sales at 7,269 units in February.

The company had sold 13,527 units in the domestic market in February 2019, HCIL said in a statement.

Exports stood at 64 units last month, it added.
