New Delhi: The hike in the price of petrol continued for the fifth consecutive day on Monday, whereas the price of diesel remained unchanged.
Since the results of the Lok Sabha elections, the cost of petrol has increased by 52 paise so far, giving an indication that prices of crude oil gave relief only till the elections.
Oil marketing companies have again raised petrol prices by 10 paise per litre in Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai, while Chennai has increased the prices by 11 paise a litre.

As per the website of Indian Oil, petrol prices in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai have gone up to Rs 71.77, Rs 73.83, Rs 77.38 and Rs 74.50 per litre respectively. However, the price of diesel remained unchanged at Rs 66.64, Rs 68.40, Rs 69.83 and Rs 70.45 per litre respectively in all four metro cities.
If sources are to be believed, oil companies had received the directions to keep oil prices balanced. The reason for the price hike is said to be the continuous rise in the oil prices in the domestic market for 15 days.
There was no increase in oil prices in the country from May 4 to May 19.
