Mumbai: The Reserve Bank of India on Monday expanded the Bharat Bill Payment System coverage to include all categories of billers, except prepaid recharges.
BBPS is the first of its kind bill payment ecosystem in India. It will change the way bills are being paid. Bringing a revolution in India's bill payment market, Bharat BillPay enables every citizen to pay their different bills under the same window. This unified ecosystem brings banks, non-banks and online payment platforms under one roof as its official authorised units for bill collections.
The move will aid in greater digitisation of cash-based bill payments.
Till now, BBPS, which is an interoperable platform for repetitive bill payments covered direct-to-home (DTH), electricity, gas, telecom and water bills.
