New Delhi: The Supreme Court bench led by Justice Arun Mishra slammed the automobile associations including Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) for flouting its 27th March order on relaxations for sale and registration of BS-IV vehicles beyond 31st March deadline.
The court had given relaxation of 10 days to sell 10% of the unsold inventory in view of the lockdown imposed, which had made the sale difficult, as claimed by the automobile associations.
A bench of Justices Arun Mishra and S Abdul Nazeer, which heard the matter through video-conferencing, said it is "startling" to note that even after lifting of the lockdown on May 3, "when the sales have taken place and as per our order, no registration could have been made without informing this court as to how many vehicles have been sold throughout India."
"It is made clear that now no registration and sale of the BS-IV vehicles is permitted," the bench said.
It said that registration of vehicles, which were to be sold out of the permitted 10 per cent, cannot be made without its permission and without giving particulars as ordered by the court in March.
FADA pleaded before the court on Monday to extend the registration further for 15 days after the lockdown is lifted.

FADA was supposed to file its affidavit on the matter by end of May but it failed to do so. Infuriated by the non submission of the affidavit Justice Mishra lashed out asking," Do you think this is a game? It had to be filed by May, its already the end of June now."
He also stated that against the court's order which allowed sale of 1.05 lakh BS-IV vehicles, it seems that 2.55 lakh vehicles have been sold.
The court has directed the Ministry of Road and Transport and FADA to submit all the details on sale and registration of BS-IV vehicles after the court's 27th March order by Friday and after that the matter will be heard again.
