Only 70 out of 119 Jet Airways aircraft operational: DGCA official

Only 70 out of the total 119 aircraft of Jet Airways are currently operational and the remaining 49 aircraft are grounded.

New Delhi: Only 70 out of the total 119 aircraft of Jet Airways are currently operational, a senior DGCA official said on Thursday.

"We have asked Jet Airways to give enough notice to passengers on flight cancellations. We are also ensuring that only airworthy planes of Jet Airways are flying so that minimum inconvenience is there to passengers," DGCA chief BS Bhullar said.

Bhullar added that Jet Airways is not defaulting on airport dues as of now and any issue of the company dues to staff or lessors has not come to us.

Speaking about the Jet Airways situation after releasing a coffee table book- 'Scaling New Heights', Union Minister for civil aviation Suresh Prabhu said that the ministry is monitoring the situation of Jet Airways very closely.

"Civil Aviation Sector has seen exponential growth in India and the growth trajectory has continued during 2018-19," said Suresh Prabhu. He further mentioned that the growth itself has posed many challenges and opened up new avenues.
